Times Higher Education Supplement IP conference

Morgan Cole partner Alison Patten-Hall delivered a talk at the Times Higher Education Supplement Intellectual Property Conference at The Commonwealth Club in London on 26 November 2008.

The conference focused in particular on how higher education institutions can make the most of the intellectual capital generated by their activities. Alison's talk focused on the practical steps which institutions can take to identify and protect their intellectual property.

The Minister for Higher Education, David Lammy, delivered a keynote address. Also speaking at the conference was Paul Wellings, Vice Chancellor of Lancaster University whose influential report to the Secretary of State "Intellectual Property and Research Benefits" had been recently published on 30 September 2008.

Delegates from Higher Education Institutions, Industry and Government participated in a lively discussion on the challenges faced in reconciling commercial exploitation of intellectual property with an academically orientated research culture.

Alison's talk was very well received and many attendees took the opportunity to consult her informally during the breakout sessions.
